Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, said that Defence Minister Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen visited the Royal Thai Army (RTA) Headquarters, accompanied by General Phana Plodthuk, Commander-in-Chief of the RTA, along with senior army officers and regional and division commanders.

During the visit, the RTA presented a proposal to increase its combat readiness budget to procure additional weapons and military equipment. The proposed acquisitions include unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), wheeled armored vehicles, M777 howitzers, and HIMARS missile systems. The RTA also proposed establishing a dedicated UAV warfare center to strengthen its capabilities in drone operations.

Major General Winthai Suvaree, spokesman for the RTA, said the army had proposed modernizing its capabilities to keep pace with global developments in personnel, equipment and mission management.

The Defence Minister accepted the proposals for further consideration, with the RTA emphasizing the importance of UAVs given their increasingly significant role across a wide range of military missions.

The proposed measures are aimed at enhancing the RTA’s operational readiness and ensuring that its capabilities remain aligned with evolving military technologies and security requirements.
